What is Podiatry and Chiropody?

"Podiatry, more appropriately 'podiatric medicine' is a field of healthcare devoted to the study and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, and the knee, leg and hip (collectively known as the lower extremity)” for Wikipedia article.

“Pod” is the Latin word for foot and The term “Podiatry” has evolved from the title “Chiropody” to reflect the full extent of the profession. Historically a chiropodist would only treat toenails, corns and calluses. As the profession developed, however, this title no longer encompassed the full scope of practice. It now ranges from nail and bone surgery of the foot to musculoskeletal and sporting injuries, in addition to more traditional chiropody. Hence, a Podiatrist is the term given to a lower limb specialist.
